Ultimately, we are responsible for our own wellbeing. However, it can be hard to place our own wellbeing as a top priority when we are responsible for so many others’.

Even getting through the day to day responsibilities of family, work and household tasks is a tumultuous affair, without taking into account other factors like mental health issues, sickness and stress.

It is often overwhelming to contemplate any little bit of time focussed on ourselves as it becomes just another thing to add on our to do list. If this is the case, then our wellbeing must become our top priority to give us the tools to deal with the responsibility of everything else. The harsh reality that we are not coping is a massive indicator that there needs to be a renewed focus on our own personal holistic health.

And here’s the kicker: by the time we find out we’re not coping, we’re a bit too far down the wrong road. The time to act is now, before the doom and gloom sets in. Self-care must be pro-active, not re-active.

Be active…… do what you can, enjoy what you do, move your mood

Connect…… talk and listen, be there, feel connected

Keep learning…… embrace new experiences, see opportunities, surprise yourself

It’s the little gestures that make the difference and are sustainable. If we strive each day to accomplish even just one, it will be a step in the right direction toward improving our own personal wellbeing. And herein lies the magic; when we improve our own, we positively impact on others’.

Which leads me to my next thought:
